Cat With Allergies

How To Know If You Have A Cat With Allergies And How To Treat It.

Cats can have allergies, just like people can. About 15% of all cats suffer from at least one allergy. A cat with allergies can suffer from many different types of allergies, including inhalant allergies, food allergies, contact allergies, and insect allergies. The inhalant allergies usually come from airborne particles. The insect allergies usually come from fleas or ticks. If you have a cat with allergies, there are ways to treat it and help to make it's life a little easier. Don't let your cat with allergies suffer needlessly from allergies when it doesn't have to. The most common cause of a cat with allergies is fleas.

Even if you think your cat doesn't have fleas, it may. A close up inspection of the skin under the hair will tell the tale. Keeping your cat with allergies up to date on flea and tick medication is all that is needed to help manage this particular allergy. The medication should be given year round, not just in the warmer months. Cats can get fleas at any time of the year. If you have a cat with allergies and you don't think the problem is fleas, there are other things it could be. A cat with allergies can be allergic to food as well.

Food is the cause of allergies in about 10 percent of cats. Cats can develop food allergies all of a sudden, they are not necessarily born with the food allergy. Most cats with a food allergy have been eating the food they are allergic to for up to two years. If you think your cat has a food allergy, try experimenting by changing brands of cat food and giving foods with different ingredients to see if the symptoms worsen or improve. A cat with allergies most likely needs to see a vet if none of the things mentioned above takes care of the problem. A cat with allergies can be given shots and pills by a vet to help manage the allergy condition.
